Today was the day! I have now officially moved to Leicester ahead of starting my course in a few weeks time.

On my way

The journey was peaceful, a few connections down the country but I had good seats the whole way and everyone was really kind that I met. I think I always worry a bit that I’m going to meet a Karen on a train who starts yelling at everyone about something out of everyone’s control, but thankfully that’s never happened and I hope it never does!

Arrival

I arrived at ‘The Village’, the area where my accomodation is situated (what an amazing name for it though, makes me feel like I’m in a fantasy novel). I picked up my keys, and a useful welcome pack, and made my way through ‘The Village’ towards where I was told my building was.

Now, one thing I was really told about Leicester over the past few weeks is that it is very, VERY, green, and I am certainly not dissapointed. Everywhere I’ve been today around my new neighbourhood I have been surrounded by the most gorgeous trees, below I’ve got put a picture up of the view outside my bedroom window onto the most adorable Birch tree (one of my favourite types of tree in case you didnt know).

Once I’d found my room and dropped off my belongings, I got a phone call. My delivery had arrived, perfect timing! After a lovely conversation with a very friendly delivery driver, I brought my new items back to my room also. It was just a few extra things I didn’t have room to carry with me on my journey so decided to buy new. I think come the end of the year I’ll find a way to donate them to new students rather than figure out a way to transport them anywhere.

The Centre for Sports

Once I had everything in my room, it was time to explore the local area, and I knew just where I wanted to head to first, the sports centre!

The Roger Bettles Sports Centre is only about a 10 minute walk from my accomodation, I had checked it out recently online but honestly the pictures hardly do it justice. The centre staff allowed me to have a quick wander of the place (very generous considering I’ve yet to acquire my student ID) and I saw everything a budding athlete like myself could ever want!

A wall lined with treadmills, matched across the walkway with bikes. A full weight lifting setup, and plenty of different crossfit machines. A beautiful changing room for the pool, which is coupled with connected steam room and jacuzzi! I didn’t take any pictures on my tour (people deserve their privacy when working out) but I’ve linked to the site above, be sure to check it out if you’re in the area. I’ll definitely be getting my membership as soon as I can!

An Interlude in the Garden

Once I was out of the busy sports centre, I needed somewhere to relax. Conveniently, my welcome pack I acquired earlier informed me of a nearby botanical garden open to the public!

It wasn’t long before I was effectively frolicking amongst the various plants and fauna that they had growing there. Just a few examples I saw were:

  • A large Redwood tree
  • Lots of Spruce Trees
  • A Miniature Rainforest
  • A Collection of Deadly Plants!

And that’s just to name a few, I’ll definitely be visitng there a lot over the coming months, even if it’s just to destress from all the rocketry I’ll be learning.

Winding Down

From travelling around the country, to just around my new neighbourhood, today has been a hectic day. I absolutely love days like this, where I have so much to write about and so many fond memories. As always my favourite part was the people, whether it was the lovely delivery driver bringing me my pillows, or the kind staff of the sports centre giving me a great tour of the building, it’s people like that that help you feel like home no matter where you are!

But now, it’s time for my tradition, whenver I move, whereever I move, I have to fall asleep on the first night watching the Pixar classic: Wall-E.

As the opening song so perfectly says:

Put on your Sunday Clothes there’s lots of world out there!

And I’m going to see all of it 🙂

Happy Sunday, see you soon!
