Metasequoia is a genus in the family Cupressaceae, and are better known as Dawn Redwoods. The trees are all but extinct in the modern day with only one species remaining.

This is the first plant identified by me to exist on the endangered scale and was for a long time thought to be extinct before some were found alive and well. The Dawn Redwood is a tree indigineous to China, but efforts have been made to spread it around the world and diversify the population.
