The Japanese Maple is a maple tree commonly found in Eastern Asian countries such as Japan, Korea and China. Known for their characteristic red leaves, the trees have a role in Japanese folklore where they are often associated protection and care. Despite this the trees often have a fiery depiction due to their orange and yellow phase in their adolescence.

Unlike other maple trees, the leaves of the Japanese maple have five sections whereas the others tend to have three.
