Cattails! I love cattails, they are definitely in my top five favourite plants. Often found in wetlands, cattails grow most effectively in fresh water and have been used for centuries to aid explorers to find water suitable to drink.

The large sausage like shape at the top of the reed is a dense collection of flowers. The two seperate parts are the male flowers (top) and the female flowers (bottom) which collide once the plant devolves in the late summer to breed.
