The Turkish Sweetgum tree is a species of Sweetgum tree found commonly in the Eastern Mediterranean. The genus of tree is known for it’s sweet tasting sap found within the trunk hence it’s name of sweetgum! The age of a tree such as this can be told by its bark, the older the tree the more cracks appear in the bark as well as a more brownish colour.
Oddly enough, I came across this tree in the South of France whereas it’s spread is supposedly limited to regions around Turkey. It’s possible I misidentified it but all of the other possibilites were even further away so I’m not too sure.
Genus: Liquidambar
Family: Altingiaceae
